The STUDIO laser system is a compact, mid-size CO2 laser system designed to deliver powerful laser processing in a space-saving footprint. The Class 2 enclosed design provides added flexibility when positioning the Studio within your manufacturing environment. Available with CO2 laser sources up to 250 watts, the Studio delivers the performance and versatility needed for a wide range of cutting and engraving applications, all while fitting through a standard 36” doorway. All Studio laser sytems are proudly designed and manufactured in the USA.

Standard features included with the Studio medium-format laser system are a water chilling unit, integrated air pump and Kern’s new KCAM8 laser software.

Standard Features

Super Pulsed CO2 Laser

75-250 watt CO2 lasers with Super Pulse technology, developed by Kern Technologies, excels in cutting acrylic, wood and more!

Closed-Loop Chiller

A closed-loop chilling unit properly cools the laser source, ensuring a long laser lifetime and consistent cutting and engraving results.

Integrated Air Pump

An integrated air pump delivers 1 CFM of air to the nozzle, protecting the focusing lens and ensuring great quality laser cutting and engraving.

6" Display Screen

An 6” LCD display, allowing operators to conveniently set machine parameters directly at the system, without the need for an external computer.

Table Pass-Through

A pass-through design allows oversized material to extend horizontally through the system. When using this feature the system is in Class 4 mode and laser safety glasses must be worn.

Safety Features

CDRH laser machinery compliance is ensured with emergency stop buttons, safety labeling, interlocked access points and a 5 second delay safety key switch.

Dust Protection

A synthetic belt material seals the optical beam path and critical interior components from fumes, dust, and debris, helping maintain a clean, reliable operation.

Training Program

A 2 day training course at Kern's factory is included with each system. Kern's knowledgeable staff will cover safety, maintenance, operation and applications.

Optional Packages

K-Vision Camera

The K-Vision Camera package is a fully integrated hardware and software solution allowing fast and accurate cutting of printed materials.

This process starts with a nozzle mounted camera which automatically measures the dimensions between registration marks on printed materials. The system then uses these measurements and the registration marks of the original cutting file to compensate for distortion and rotation. The slight adjustments that k-vision makes to the cutting file results in a perfectly matched cutout in the material being processed. The entire camera system can be easily removed and stored in a protective box when not in use.

Pipe Rotary Package

A Pipe Rotary attachment can be added to Kern’s laser systems for processing of pipes, rods and other cylindrical items. The rotary device is driven by a high-resolution servo motor, resulting in smooth and accurate cutting performance.

Two rotary styles are available; the Chuck Rotary and Wheel Rotary. Kern’s laser systems can be equipped with one or both style rotaries.

High-Pressure Air

The High-Pressure Air package allows an air compressor to deliver up to 120 psi of clean, dry air to the laser nozzle. The additional air pressure can improve cut quality when processing certain materials while providing increased protection for the focusing lens from smoke, fumes, and other contaminants.

This option also includes the Programmable Air Upgrade, allowing air pressure settings to be controlled directly within the laser software. Pressure settings can be saved to KCAM’s Material Database, providing quick recall of optimized air pressure for each material.

ADDITIONAL FEATURES

Table Ruler

The Studio laser system comes standard with raised rulers along the X and Y axes, providing a convenient hard stop for quickly positioning and squaring material on the processing table.

Honeycomb Bed

A durable aluminum table structure is inserted into the bed, maintaining a flat work surface. The honeycomb cells allow for a down draft table and also ducting smoke and debris into the bottom table chamber.

Vacuum Sensor

A built-in vacuum sensor verifies proper airflow from the fume extractor or blower before allowing laser processing to begin, helping ensure fumes and debris are safely removed during operation.

1.5” Lens Assembly

A great all-around processing head equipped with a high-quality optic. The assembly features an assist air which pushes air out of the nozzle, protecting the lens from smoke and debris.

UL Electrical Panel

A UL certified electrical panel is placed on each laser system which turns on and shuts down components of the laser system. CUL and CE approved machines are available by request.

LED Lights

Integrated LED lighting illuminates the processing area, providing clear visibility for material setup, positioning, and machine operation.

Optional Add-Ons

Fume Extraction

Fume Extractors help maintain a clean and safe working environment. The extractor pulls smoke, fumes, and airborne particulates away from the processing area and filters the exhaust before returning the cleaned air to the facility. This provides a convenient solution for installations where exhausting air outdoors is not practical.

For facilities that prefer to exhaust fumes directly outside, an optional vacuum blower is also available. The blower provides the airflow needed to efficiently remove smoke and fumes from the laser system and discharge them outdoors through the facility’s ductwork. Both options are designed to provide the proper airflow required for effective fume removal during laser processing.

Bed Structures

The STUDIO laser system accommodates a variety of interchangeable processing bed structures to support different materials and laser applications. Available bed options include aluminum honeycomb, paper honeycomb, Ecolite gridwork, and acrylic slats. Each bed structure offers unique advantages depending on the material being processed and the desired cutting or engraving results. Selecting the appropriate bed structure helps provide proper material support, minimizes contact with the underside of the material, and reduces back reflections and unwanted marking during laser processing. The interchangeable design allows operators to easily adapt the processing bed to suit their specific application.

Focus Lens Assemblies

The STUDIO laser system comes standard with a 1.5″ focal length (FL) lens assembly, with optional 2.5″ and 4.0″ focal length lens assemblies available to accommodate a wider range of laser processing applications. The standard 1.5″ lens provides a small focused spot size, making it ideal for detailed engraving and precision cutting of thin materials. Longer focal length lenses offer an increased depth of focus, allowing the laser beam to maintain a more consistent spot size over a greater vertical distance. This is particularly beneficial when cutting thicker materials, processing uneven surfaces, or working with materials that require additional clearance between the nozzle and workpiece. Selecting the appropriate focal length lens assembly helps optimize cutting quality, engraving detail, and overall laser processing performance.

Computer & Software

The Studio Computer & Software package provides the essential technology and design tools needed to operate the laser system efficiently. An optional computer arm package includes a mounting arm that securely connects the monitor, computer, and keyboard directly to the laser system for a clean, integrated workspace.

Design software packages can include industry-standard programs such as CorelDRAW and Adobe Illustrator, along with plugin tools for both platforms that streamline production by nesting parts, adding lead-ins and tabs, and sending the completed file directly to KCAM for laser processing.

NEW KCAM8 LASER SOFTWARE

KCAM® is a proprietary laser cutting and engraving software, created by Kern’s software development team. Continually refined through years of research, development, and customer feedback, KCAM® provides an intuitive and powerful platform for precise laser processing.

Popular design programs, including CorelDRAW® and Adobe Illustrator®, integrate with KCAM® to provide a streamlined workflow from artwork creation to laser processing. Kern’s customers have access to the latest KCAM® software updates through our website.

From cutting thick acrylic to processing thin, delicate textiles, KCAM® provides the control and flexibility needed to achieve fast, accurate, and consistent results across a wide range of materials and applications.

In conjunction with KCAM8, the .KERN Exporter Tool was developed. This tool integrates directly with CorelDRAW® and Adobe Illustrator®, allowing artwork to be quickly transferred to KCAM® for laser processing. Material parameters can be selected during the export process, combining the artwork and processing settings into a single .KERN file for a streamlined workflow.

KCAM®8 features a comprehensive material database that allows operators to quickly select pre-installed processing parameters or create custom folders and settings for their specific materials and applications.

Customized Pierce Settings. The dwell time, laser power, frequency, focus point and air flow can be set independently from your normal cut settings. This feature ensures metals are cut clean with minimal to no dross.

Air Control. Compressed shop air, oxygen or nitrogen can be hooked up to the laser system for optimal processing results on a variety of laserable materials.

Vector Path Speed Control. KCAM mimics a race car by slowing the cutting speed into sharp corners and accelerating out of them. The result is smooth, consistent cutting with the tap of your mouse.

Cut Optimizer. Decrease your programming time by letting KCAM automatically determine the fastest cut order for your most complicated designs.

Time Estimator. Provide accurate pricing to your customers by knowing the amount of laser processing time before the product even makes it to the laser bed.

Tool Offset. A simple inside/outside offset can be set to compensate for the laser beam kerf. This results in precisely sized parts without modification of your original part drawings.
